The answer: It Depends!

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is an adaptive test conducted on a computer with the intention of assessing certain analytical, quantitative, verbal and reading skills. This test is conducted in English only and is used as part of the supporting documents required when applying for a postgraduate management program, such as a Masters, Postgraduate diploma and MBA.

It is mainly used by academic institutions to assess the aptitude and level of knowledge a potential candidate possesses when applying for a graduate program at the University. The real objective is to ensure that a candidate is capable of coping with the demands and rigorous study schedules usually demanded of postgraduate programmes.

Having said that, most distance education UAE courses have not made the GMAT mandatory and some institutions do not require it at all. These institutions have developed their own methods of assessment or entrance exams to assess the potential candidates abilities in spoken and written English and/or Math depending on the field/course of study selected. Most entrance exams or interviews are the same as the GMAT but the difference lies in the approach to assessment. This is to ensure that the type of questions asked and answered are relevant to the point of view of the university and most application to the modules offered on courses such as the Global Online MBA.

Another criteria that influences the requirement of a GMAT is the presence (or absence) of an undergraduate degree from an internationally recognised college or university. In most cases, the absence of an undergraduate qualification would lead to a non-standard application for an online degree in UAE and would thus require a GMAT. This is in contrast to any MSc course which have a mandatory requirement of an undergraduate degree in the same or relevant field of study. For non-standard applications the employment history of the candidate as identified in their resume or CV along with strong references from employers or academic individuals is vital to prove to the University that the candidates are competent and capable enough to be enrolled onto Global MBA programs and the like.

For you application, it would be best to communicate with an admissions advisor with experience in order to assess your case and guide you onto the best possible path to achieving your higher education qualification.
